It was already possible to run cracked games from DVD, but now some hackers managed to run cracked games on your Xbox 360 from hard disk, or external storage.
With XexLoader & FreeXex QuickBoot hackers achieved great new possibilities for your Xbox 360. Although it was already legally possible to install games onto your Xbox 360 hard drive the great annoying thing was that you had to put in your (original) game disc.
Your Xbox 360 needs to be "Jtagged" with a special cable & it must run the kernel prior to version 85xx, so it's not possible for every Xbox 360 owner.
FreeXex Quickboot v.02 release notes:
QuickBoot allows you to build "short cut" LIVE containers that will allow you to launch applications directly from NXE.
The three main advantages of this are:
Saves time by loading the application directly, rather than having to use XexLoader to browse the file tree and find the executable.
Bypasses the 4GB size limit on live containers as you're not actually storing the application data in the live container, merely making a shortcut to it.
Allows you to load applications off of external hard drives etc. straight from NXE.
Although it's not completely legal this opens opportunities to run homebrew software on the Xbox 360, hopefully XBMC will be available in the near future. XBMC made the "old" classic Xbox desirable by people who wanted to have a good/cheap MediaCenter box into their livingroom.
